Next week Fox will kick off their new series, More to Love, which is essentially the Bachelor but with slightly overweight people (aka, “curvy Cindarellas” and “voluptuous ladies”). I am already looking forward to the clips that will inevitably appear on The Soup with Joel McHale mocking the amount of crying and emotional eating that is sure to accompany this series and the infamous elimination ceremonies, (especially considering Fox is claiming some of these ladies have never gone on actual dates before!).

Here are the deets:

MORE TO LOVE, the new dating competition show from Mike Fleiss (“The Bachelor”), follows one regular guy’s search for love among a group of real women determined to prove that love comes in all shapes and sizes. The inspirational new series is hosted by iconic supermodel Emme.

Luke Conley is a 26-year-old former college football offensive lineman who stands 6′3″ and weighs over 300 pounds. He’s a successful sub-contractor and real estate investor who has his sights set on building a long-lasting …relationship.

I was a big fan of the Bachelor when it first started and I was still in college, but I pretty much lost all interest after the season with Andrew Firestone. They never picked the person I wanted and it just seemed to really go downhill after that season (in my opinion). However, since we are now blogging about the challenges of losing weight and because we’re all fans of ridiculous TV series, I can’t help but give this train wreck of a show a try.

Will any of you be watching?

While reading some stories on CNN.com this morning, I came across this posting about retail chains scaling down the size labels on clothing. It’s been a while since I heard about this, so thought I’d torture myself with a quick read.

You don’t need to conduct a scientific study to confirm that girls feel better when they’re wearing a skirt with a size 4 tag versus a size 10. Anyone could tell you that. I personally would rather not purchase a shirt a size higher than I typically wear — it’s depressing and I’d rather not buy the shirt at all than have to face the reality that at this particular store, I have to go a size up. Nope, not an option. Well unless it’s couture. Everyone knows couture runs small, (if you don’t know what I mean, venture into a bridal boutique and get fitted for a Vera Wang gown—it’s a very cruel, eye opening experience).

I found the second half of the article to be particularly interesting. It focuses on the “history of body size perceptions.” As CNN notes, back in the day (and I mean waaaay back in the day), plumpness was an indicator of prosperity when food was scarce. I’ve been told that all fashion comes back eventually… so when is being a normal weight going to come back? It’s been almost 200 years! Anyway, I’ve always blamed Kate Moss for the ridiculous “heroin chic” look in the ‘90s and for the downfall of women’s body image as this look doesn’t quite work with 99% of body types. Well, I’ve been proven wrong. I learned it goes back much further – to the artistic and literary movement known as Romanticism, which took place in the late 18th century. Apparently anorexia and the “willowy” look for women took off in the 1830s. The word diet and the goal of weight loss entered our vocabularies in 1910. Who knew?!

So Kate Moss, I apologize. Although I do think we’d all feel better if you ate a cupcake once in a while. Please?

Stepping on the scale in the morning can be traumatic and often times, it sets the tone for the rest of the day (damn that pizza I decided to eat last night).

Ever wish stepping on the scale was guaranteed to be a positive experience? Today I thought I’d highlight a super cute scale that actually makes you feel good! Two of my best friends got me this scale as a birthday gift back in February and I’ve been happily weighing myself ever since. Instead of numbers, your weight translates into flattering categories such as “heartbreaker” or “traffic stopper.” Who wouldn’t want to start the day off with compliments like that?!

We tried this out at the last FatRoll meeting. Here were our results:

Meredith is between “True Superstar” and “Heartbreaker”

Kristine is a straight up “Heartbreaker”

Jenni is “I’m so Amazing”

And, Ashley has a ”Smoking Hot Bod”

It’s simple: place a scale in your work kitchen strategically next to high-cal food with a reminder of how much you weigh. That cake has been there for two days — it would have been gone in two hours if the scale wasn’t there. Only the pregnant women are eating it (as they should).
