Let the Dieting Begin!

So I’m going to write the inaugural entry for our blog because I feel like I have the most to lose…and the most to gain.  I am the only one in the group that is currently single…and believe me, I’m ready to mingle!

I’ve actually been on Weight Watchers since January of this year and have managed to lose 8 lbs.  While any loss is a good loss, I’m disappointed in myself because I know I could have lost far more by now if I had truly committed to eating better.  I could use my birthday and a weeklong cruise as excuses as to why I didn’t lose as much as I should have, but I’m not going to.  The buck stops here.  If the loser in this challenge has to post their bikini-clad body on this site I am not going to be that loser.  Afterall, you would be scarred for life if you saw all this covered by so little fabric.

I think it has finally sunk in.  It’s really quite simple.  Eat less, do more, and you’ll lose weight.  Why can’t we all just stick to those easy rules to live by?!  …Because we’re Americans and we want to eat the burger, inhale the fries, and wash it all down with a smooth chocolate milkshake.  Do I hear an Amen!?  While I don’t plan to give up burgers altogether, I am going to only eat half of it paired with a salad and washed down with a Diet Coke.  It’s not about giving up what I like to eat…it’s about eating for sustenance, not emotion.  This is my mantra!

I’m the queen of emotional eating, only I don’t eat when I’m depressed, I eat when I’m happy.  Let me tell ya, by the looks of the scale right now I’m very happy.  I’m 26 years old, single, work in downtown Austin, have a full social calendar, and am traveling like it’s going out of style.  Life. Is. Good.  Happy hours and dinners out every night leads to drinking every day and eating exaggerated portions.  Not so good for keeping me in my size 31 Hudson jeans.

I’m realistic.  I could lose 20 lbs and still be a size 10.  The point is that at least I will then fit into all of the clothing in my closet (which is a lot, considering I have a degree in Fashion Design).  As a means of inspiration during this challenge I plan to try on key pieces in my closet that currently don’t fit me every week.  With every inch I can pull the dress further down over my hips or the jeans further up my thighs I will be inspired to continue my quest for weightloss.  Victory (and a pair of expensive designer jeans in hopefully a size 31 or lower) will be mine!
