I don’t want to talk about it…

But after reading all the other girls’ posts, I now feel the need to confess my Thanksgiving fails. This was my first time to host our family’s Thanksgiving at my house and I wanted to make sure it was fabulous, which apparently to me equals buying 7x more food than necessary… better too much than too little right?!? I may need to reassess this thinking.

Thursday: For breakfast we had pecan covered sticky buns and buttermilk pancakes. Then, as if Thanksgiving dinner isn’t fattening enough, we decided to get ours started with lots of wine (my sister’s boyfriend brought a few bottles of Cakebread – who can refuse that?!), champagne (again, never refuse champagne, especially when it’s Veuve Cliquot), beer (for the boys of course), some green chili queso with tortilla chips and some baked brie with honey and enough French bread to feed a small army.

Next up was our 22 lb turkey and all the traditional sides including about 10 lbs of mashed potatoes (I may have slightly overestimated how many potatoes to boil…). For dessert we had a selection of pumpkin cheesecake, apple pie and chocolate bon bons, which were actually more like Oreo cake balls. I’m not sure if this is a sign of success, but everyone was so full by the time dinner was served that not one person went back for seconds (I did make everyone have dessert though).

Friday: After waking up from a Thanksgiving food coma, we decided to keep it light and just have a piece of toast and some tangerines for breakfast. Of course that guilt wore off pretty quickly because by 1:00 pm, we were piled into the car on our way to Kreuz Market in Lockhart, Texas and proceeded to eat 5lbs of ribs, brisket and sausage.

We’ve been picking at Thanksgiving leftovers ever since, but I don’t think I’ve actually felt hungry until Sunday night following that ridiculous BBQ meal.

Here are some pictures from the Levine/Budwin/Grant Thanksgiving weekend!

My first turkey!

All the pups patiently waiting for some turkey. Note Derby’s fancy Thanksgiving day attire :)
