Growing up, I was a skinny little kid with pudgy cheeks. All was cute and thin until a growth spurt in fourth grade (eight inches in one year!) put me at 5 ft. 4 in., 34C bust line and 120 lbs. by the age of 12. Throughout high school, my weight would fluctuate by 20 lbs., and an upward trend of that fluctuation continued through college and today. Luckily, I think I have a handle on things now (thanks, @fatroll!!) but I’d still like to lose another 10 pounds before the dreaded 10 year high school reunion this fall. Can I do it? I’m sure, with a little help from my friends!

I love food. Plain and simple. Being active has become a part of my life to the point where I don’t even think about it. I have finally mastered the “active lifestyle” hurdle, but I still can’t see food as just a form of sustenance. Eating is something I do for pleasure. No matter how full I am, there is always room for dessert. I lost 35 lbs last year and I don’t plan to ever let myself get out of control again to the point where I gain all of that back. I’m still a German girl with curves, a lot of muscle, and an endless love for chocolate. Part of accepting that about myself is understanding that I will never be a size 4 stick that can eat anything that I want. I love the body that I’ve earned and thanks to the blog I plan to maintain accountability and keep this size.

I’m pretty sure I have a minor eating disorder regarding an obsession with food. It must be something in my genes because my family tends to plan holidays, vacations and birthdays around food – especially sweets. Somehow I’ve managed to stay under 200 lbs, but I’ve noticed that it’s getting more difficult to avoid slowly packing on the lbs.

In the past, I haven’t been very successful with dieting or exercising — I’m what you call a perpetual excuse-maker. If I can think of any reason to prevent me from going to the gym or eating well, I will use it: I deserve a night off; there is a 10% chance of rain today; Real Housewives of Orange County/New York/New Jersey is on tonight; I’m too hungry to run (this one is my favorite). After a few successful maintenance rounds and having some great friends to keep me accountable, I’m ready to take my exercise habits up a notch to get ready for the Fat Roll bikini pic.

I. have. a. complex. Empathize with me a bit as I try to justify what it’s like being born into a race in which the majority of the women have the waist size of my thigh. The last time I was a tiny little Asian girl was at the age of 5 – when I was in fact a tiny little Asian girl. Almost a year into this challenge and there is definitely room to go. But, I’d like to think I’ve accomplished a lot and am generally happy with what I see in the mirror.
