Food Spotlight: Yogurt

Since starting WW I have become obsessed with yogurt.  I love the creamy texture and I can get it in any flavor…including chocolate!  It’s a way for me to satisfy my sweettooth without overdoing it.  Not to mention that it helps me get my daily allowance of dairy, which is super important for women.

I’m sure you’ve all heard of probiotics (aka “good” bacteria) by now because you can’t turn on the TV without seeing a commercial on how they are important in keeping your digestive tract…well, free and clear…if you catch my drift.  It’s a little TMI for me to be quite honest.  But seriously, the probiotics found in yogurt can help you decrease lactose intolerance, strengthen your immune system, and even “promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the colon and reduce the conversion of bile into carcinogens (cancer-causing substances)“.

On top of that, WebMD says that there are 5 main benefits of yogurt that should encourage you to make it a part of your daily diet:

1.  Yogurt may help prevent Osteoporosis.big-yogurt

2.  Yogurt may reduce the risk of high blood pressure.

3.  Yogurt with active cultures (as mentioned above) help the tummy function properly.

4.  Yogurt may help with certain female issues (read the article for more details…I’ll spare our male readers).

5.  Yogurt may help you feel fuller.

Ding ding ding ding ding!  Did you see numero cinco?  No wonder I’ve been eating yogurt for breakfast everyday and feeling satisfied for a decent amount of time!  There is actually a study that shows that when given a 200 calorie snack, those who had yogurt as their snack managed to stay fuller, longer.

You wanna try eating yogurt more regularly now, don’t you?  Well here are a few of my favorites to get you started:

Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Yogurt- I eat this every morning with Fiber One cereal added to it.  Love. It.

Stonyfield Farm Fat Free Chocolate Underground- Who knew they could somehow add chocolate to yogurt and truly make it tast good?!  Try it all you chocaholics!

FAGE Fat Free Plain Greek Yogurt- Add honey to this one for a really special treat!
