Bootcamp, yes please

Kristine I’m not the type of person who is an instant believer for a lot of things like the Hollywood diet or fad workouts.

But, I felt compelled to write this morning about the extreme butt kicking I received at the hands of Barron Jackson.

I’m a 24 hour fitness member (yay for corporate discounts), and  I’ve tried everything under the sun. From pilates to yoga to marathon training to RunTex running groups, been there done that.

This morning’s class was listed under Camp 24 – a pace yourself, or go the limit ultimate circuit workout. Improve cardiovascular and muscular strength and endurance in 24 Hour Fitness boot camp style! One of the most fun ways to get fit! Suitable for all levels.

Yes, a bootcamp! Always wanted to try one of those. So I dragged my bum out of bed at 5:00 am to attend the class. Should’ve known from the warm-up which consisted of laps, sprints and leap-frogs that this was going to be intense.

Today, we worked on lower body plyometric routines. There were death jumps, squats, lunges, squats, more jumps and leap-frogs.  I felt like my legs were going to give out during sprints.

Drenched in sweat, we ended the class with weaves, leap-frogs and push-ups. Then – as a cherry on top – we played the catapiller game. Breaking into two teams, all I heard was, “whoever finishes first won’t have to do sprints. And, i’m going to sprint you to death.”

Damnit.

Good thing I was on the winning team.

Barron was super motivating and the workout was hard. I lingered after class and got a bit more information on him and his training schedule. He’s got some great programs!

In fact, if you’re interested here are a couple of options:

  • Sunday – June 29, 2009
    • Barron will be hosting a “preview” class off of Hart Lane and FarWest Blvd. It starts at 6:00pm and is only $10. There will be strength training (i.e. flipping tires, kettlebells) and general conditioning.
  • Group Fitness Training
    • He offers a training program (complete with meal plans and a cleanse). If anyone wants to do a group rate, let me know! He gave me a sick offer.
    • These are held at Pease Park throughout the week.
  • Personal Home Training
    • He also offers personal 1:1 training. Make sure to check out his site.
  • Camp 24
    • And, of course, the classes he teaches on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:00 am at the 24hr Fitness in the Hancock center.

Now, let’s hope this helps with today’s weigh-in.
